Winners of the Vaults of Secrets Flash Fiction Contest announced

The winners of the “Vaults of Secrets” Flash Fiction Contest has been announced by the organisers, Parresia Publishers.

The contest which accompanied the cover reveal of Nigerian writer/journalist Olukorede Yishau’s second book: Vaults of Secrets, asked participants to write a flash fiction of not more than 500 words based on their interpretation of the cover design.

The cover art shows a face with an index finger to its lips, which could be interpreted as whoever that is, requesting for silence.

Over 160 entries were received in the space of one month — 29th June to 29th July which the call for submission spanned.

Blessing Gabriel emerged as the winner and will receive a cash prize of 50,000 Naira. Read an excerpt of her entry here:

Vaults of Secrets is a collection of 10 short stories by Olukorede Yishau. Two time Booker Prize finalist, Chigozie Obioma praised it as, “a work of deceptive simplicity.”

The collection revolves around a number of themes such as child trafficking, domestic violence, reincarnation, justice dispensation, paternity, childhood, prison life, e.t.c. Published by Parresia Publish, it is slated for release on the 1st of October, 2020.
