PHOTOS: Sembene Across Africa — Sokoto Screening
It was a fun and educating session Yesterday, October 23 2020 as Book O’Clock hosted a screening of Ousmane Sembene’s classic film, XALA in Sokoto.
It was in collaboration with the Sembene Across Africa film screening, held anually in various African cities in remembrance/celebration of the great writer and filmmaker, Ousmane Sembene.
After the screening, we had an insightful conversation about corrupt leaders, abuse of power, polygamy, sexual impotency and the sad reality of how issues raised in a movie produced in the 70s can still be applied to present day Africa.
"It seems like we never grow," a member of the audience commented.
Thanks to the SAMBE team, CALF and everyone at Book O’Clock for making this possible.
It was Sokoto's first time participating in the annual Africa-wide screening and we at Book O'Clock look forward to hosting it again next year.
