#EndSARS: Statement on the Continued Brutality of Nigerian Officers amidst Protests

We absolutely condemn the response the Nigerian government has given the #EndSARS protest since it began. It is wrong and highly disappointing that the government has folded their hands and watched her citizens being gunned down by the same officers they are protesting. We remain in solidarity with all Nigerians — home and abroad, this difficult time.

We had a week ago after releasing our statement on the protest, paused some of our activities, because we felt it'd be insensitive to go on with them as though nothing was going on. There is a massacre in the open and all of our attention should be paid to that.

We also curated a list of platforms that accept and award pieces on police brutality in Nigeria, because art is a form of protest too and these things need to be documented. Find that here.

Two of our closest events will however go on as planned this weekend, because everything has been put in place already; invites sent out, resources exhausted in the preparation and postponing it would cost us too much.

We will however try as much as possible to infuse conversations about everything going on. We may not be on the street marching like our brothers and sisters, but we will at least talk about it.

So Friday, Sembene Across Africa and Sunday, the book launch of Salihu Mahe's debut poetry book "How To View The World From A Glass Prism".

See fliers for details.
