Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Tsi Tsi Dagarenmba, Trevor Noah, Lupita Nyong’o, others featured in Forbes Africa’s 100th Issue
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Tsi Tsi Dagarenmba, Trevor Noah and Lupita Nyong’o have been featured in April/May Forbes Africa’s 100th issue — a list of 100 innovations, inventions and icons from Africa.
The list curated by Chanel Retief and Simone Umraw for Forbes Africa celebrates ideas, inventions, and influential role models that have spelt Africa’s growth over the last decade.
The method of the selection as mentioned by Forbes Africa is “through extensive desktop research and phone and Zoom interviews, to determine those worthy for each component of this monumental list.”
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Nigerian author and feminist icon is the author of six books among which are the highly acclaimed Half of A Yellow Sun and Americanah. Her forthcoming book, Notes on Grief slated for release on 13th May is a memoir about her father who passed away in June, 2020. In January, in an interview with Black Box Interview hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, she revealed she was working on another novel.
Trevor Noah, South African-born comedian and author of award-winning book, Born A Crime is the host of The Daily Show. In 2019, FORBES noted Trevor Noah, as amongst some of the biggest names in comedy on the ‘The Highest-Earning Stand-Up Comedians’ list.
Lupita Nyong’o is an Oscar award-winning actor and author of award-winning Children’s literature, Sulwe.
“This book is also for people who don’t know about colorism. To get to know about it. It’s a mirror for dark skin girls to see themselves specifically because I didn’t have that growing up,” Nyong’o said in a 2019 interview with Jimmy Kimmel.
The Zimbabwe-born novelist and filmmaker, Tsi Tsi Dangaremba is the author of award-winning books, Nervous Conditions, The Book of Not, This Mournable Body.
“I have had some success with my novels. I owe the success I have had to write my truth. Making my truth in film is a little more difficult, due to the structure of the industry which is not yet as diverse as the world of literature.”
“For Africa to flourish, we need role models on the continent who are successful in their own lives and in paying it forward.” Dangaremba told Forbes Africa.
Other African creatives featured in the list include Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, Genevieve Nnaji, Idris Elba amongst others.
