The Queen Amina Short Story Prize is a prize that annually seeks to award the best short stories by women and girls in Sokoto at Sokoto Book and Arts Festival.

Theme of the inaugural Prize: Strong Female Lead

Women and girls in Sokoto between the ages of 15–29 years are invited to submit for the Queen Amina Short Story Prize and stand a chance of winning prizes worth N100,000.

Submission Guidelines:

  1. Interested writers are required to send a short story between 500–1000 words, that has a strong female lead character. A story whose protagonist is a girl or a woman written in her full humanity, not in affiliation or ascribed to a male character but one where we clearly see her motivations, fears, weaknesses, strengths. You are at liberty to choose the kind of genre fiction to approach this. It could be literary fiction, could be speculative, could be horror, fantasy, crime/thriller, e.t.c. The story should however have a strong female lead.
  2. Send submissions as attachments to our email address: sobafest@gmail.com. Attachment should include your name for easy identification.
  3. The subject of the email should be: “Submission for Queen Amina Short Story Prize: Title of Your Story + Your Name”. The body of the email should be a short introduction then attach your submission.

Deadline: 11:59PM, 30th October.

Finalists and winners to be announced at the #SOBAFest22 Night of Performance: 6th November 2022.

Prizes:

1st Prize: N50,000

2nd Prize: N30,000

3rd Prize: N20,000
