A literary and arts platform in Sokoto, known as Sokoto Book and Arts Foundation (SOBAF) had some days ago, put out a call for applications for their intended creatives collective called SOBAF Community.

Sokoto Book and Arts Foundation are the organisers of Sokoto Book and Arts Festival, an arts and literary festival that debuted last year in Sokoto. According to the press release, SOBAF Community “is aimed at harmonising all kinds of creative people in Sokoto and giving them a platform to explore their creativity at will.”

Following the reception of the last festival, directors of the foundation who double as the curators of the festival saw the need to launch a community that would sustain the tempo raised in the attendees of the festival. “After the festival, so many people reached out indicating their interests in the arts and right then we knew we needed to do something to sustain that rare enthusiasm and what better than a community?” Uchenna Emelife, one of the directors said.

He continued: “Our goal is to turn Sokoto into a hub for creativity; a go-to community for everything arts cause we have got all that it takes, all that is left is to come together and build a platform that would amplify our strengths. That platform is SOBAF Community.”

Application to join SOBAF Community is open to all kinds of creatives in Sokoto including poets, writers, readers, photographers, musicians, dancers, sculptors, painters, artists, curators, and any other kind of artistic creative people. Membership is free and all that’s required is for interested eligible people to apply and successful applicants will be contacted.
