10 young Nigerian Poets make their debut with Authorpedia Publishers

Abugu Chukwudalu M., Billyhadiat Taofeeqoh Adeola, Divine Inyang, Ehi-kowochio Ogwiji, Iliya Kambai Dennis, Korede Kakaaki, Martins Deep, Naimah Abdullahi Sabo, Nnadi Samuel and Sarafadeen Ibrahim are now published authors and it’s all thanks to Authorpedia.

On the 30th of May, 2020, the publisher of Authorpedia, Kukogho Ireusiri Samson took to his Facebook a free publishing offer for young Nigerian poets.

The post reads: “I’m going to be reaching out to young poets with promise for FREE (chapbook) publishing for the next two months. We will contact the poets ourselves but I welcome 3rd party recommendations. That is to say you can tell me about a poet (other than yourself) that you think deserves it.”

Days following the offer, names of selected poets were continually revealed, until 3 days ago when Authorpedia officially announced the selected ten and their works.

These selected ten poets had their debut collections published for free and edited by some renowned Nigerian poets like Adedayo Adeyemi Agarau, Jide Badmus, Salihu Mahe, Shittu Fowora among others.

Even more, these chapbooks have been made available for free download by the publishers.

Nigerian poetry has in the last decade witnessed an impressive surge of new names, with a fire that is promising to burn unceasingly. Nigerian poets home and in diaspora are writing some of the best poetry the world has never seen and we must find ourselves lucky to be witnesses to this.

The quality of poetry in these chapbooks only goes further to say how brighter the future is for Nigerian poetry, and the contributions of publishing houses like Authorpedia cannot be overemphasized.

Congratulations to the ten new authors.
